Tallinn Music Week reveals music showcase programme for the upcoming festival
The TMW 2025 music festival will take place across various venues of Tallinn’s burgeoning Telliskivi Creative City, Noblessner and Kopli districts from April 3rd to 5th. The programme focuses on the diversity of Estonian musical culture and international collaborations. Close to 30 showcase nights present music ranging from Finno-Ugric heritage to global digipop, from European jazz, contemporary classical and choral music to current waves from the African diaspora, and from Nordic, Baltic and Balkan rock to East Asian fusion styles.
The showcase nights are curated by long-standing TMW partners as well as several new agents. Curatorial newcomers include ÅÄÖ…Sounds Swedish new talent platform as well as Playground Music presenting a joint night with local up-and-coming record label Kurvad Uudised; Paavli Culture Factory’s experimental electronic music series Dreamscape; Roots Session with music inspired by American legacy genres, and Backstage Records. The Sounds of the Cities showcase, curated by Tallinn, UNESCO City of Music, brings together notable acts from music cities around the world.
Among the international curators returning to TMW for the second time are Europe’s leading classical and contemporary music showcase Classical:NEXT, the Dutch agency Yugofuturism, dedicated to musical dissidents from Central and Eastern Europe, and European Capital of Culture Oulu2026 from Finland, this time in partnership with the Estonian club culture festival unda. Finnish curators will also be present with their leading dark music festival Blowup. For the 11th year, the Made in Canada night will bring a line-up of exciting new artists from the land of the Maple Leaf to Tallinn.
The Estonian Choral Association presents a selection of works by Estonian, Norwegian, Italian and American composers from the 20th and 21st centuries; regional grassroots network Cindy & Kate line up their favourite acts from across the Baltics; and JV-Promotion takes the audience on a musical flight to Taiwan.
There will be showcase nights curated by leading Estonian events such as the Viljandi Folk Music Festival and the cross-genre festivals Võnge and Station Narva, as well as music organisations ranging from the Estonian Jazz Union to the Finno-Ugrian Society and the Heavy Music Association. The Folktronica Stage, curated by the OOPUS ensemble is back for another year as well as the ever-popular Funk Embassy Night. Africa NOW! night continues its mission to highlight talent from the African diaspora, Laine Live and Soda Pop’s future music will blast at the Uus Laine club, and Paavli Culture Factory will add dedicated live and club nights to its busy schedule for TMW.
Musicians from 106 countries, from Europe to North and South America, and from Central and Southeast Asia to the Middle East, Africa and Oceania, applied for the upcoming TMW festival. The lineup of performers will be announced in January 2025.
